Use of the Rultract Ratchet

Attach ratchet by unscrewing the lock knob on top of the gearbox. (Fig. 3A) Slide gearbox onto post. Gearbox positioned forward on post facilitates upward lift. Gearbox positioned further back on post produces lateral lift. The crank handle may be placed either to the right or left of the surgeon depending on his or her preference. Place gearbox between alignment marks on the upper post. This will position the lock knob with the retaining detent. (Fig. 3B) Hand tighten lock knob securely.

The ratchet portion of the Rultract® retractor operates as a winch. When lifting, tension generated on the cable is transferred to the self locking gearbox. The ratcheting system gently and evenly elevates in precise increments of one millimeter (1 mm) per click and locks into place. To release or reverse the ratchet system, turn the handle SLIGHTLY in the direction it will move freely. While maintaining tension on the handle, reverse ratchet lever in the opposite direction and gently lower the chest wall.(Fig. 3C)

RATCHET TO POST:

The top post and extender bar have alignment marks on both sides of the squared portion along with retaining detents for securing the gearbox and/or extender bar(s).

POSITION ON POST:

Alignment of the gearbox and extender bar between these marks locates the lock knob directly over the retaining detents for proper tightening.

REVERSING:

To release or reverse the ratchet system, turn the handle SLIGHTLY in direction it will move freely. Shift the ratchet lever in opposite direction and gently lower chest wall.
